CELEBRATING

THINK. DISCOVER. IMPACT. These are the words that hang in my classroom to capture what I believe being a student is truly about. They also are the words that I try to continue to nurture in my own life as I see myself through the lens of continually growing and trying new adventures. Our most recent family adventure has been to buy a sailboat and enjoy the water in new ways! Although Colorado is not abundant in water my roots are in Northern Wisconsin (Go Pack Go!) and we spend a lot of time there when the land isn’t frozen but the mosquitoes are thriving! I fell in love with Colorado as a teen and used college as a perfect excuse to head West.  Throughout the years I have enjoyed life in many capacities and have been a swimmer, triathlete, snowboarder, backpacker, snorkeler, tutor, teacher, runner, photographer, and artist...with the list continually growing! I love creating fun stuff to capture everyday life with pictures, words, drawing, and paint...I believe we all can have a growth mind set and all can “get it"...

..which is how I ended up teaching math after teaching in other subject areas first.  I found that math was truly the place I can connect with students and help them build self-confidence in a subject that can be frustrating for many. I have previously taught in both Jeffco and Douglas County. As I looked at where I wanted to put down roots I found I felt right at home from the first time I stepped in the building at Powell. I believe it really captures the heart of who I am as a teacher.

I truly believe in living both the width and length of life and do it with my husband of 24 years and my two boys (age 14 and 16). They give me both  joy and spirit.

MY PHILOSOPHY and LIFE

ABOUT ME

Right here is why I don't take late work. Every week is a chance to "be a star", every week my students get a chance to turn in what they did for the week and each week is a new chance to shine. I believe habits are essential to building a growth mindset in the classroom. Every week the students look up and see what they have done and what they can do.

I wouldn't be who I am without these people in my life everyday. They give me joy, love, and energy for life. I am totally blessed.

I believe that the best thing we can offer the world is to keep exploring and trying that which is unknown. Because through this we learn the process of learning and this is important for every teacher to hold to year after year. This is what keeps the heart of teaching.
